IIS Automation (1/6)

Introduction

This tutorial shows how various IIS tasks can be automated. Microsoft provides native and .NET APIs to the IIS server and its configuration files.

Starting the IIS server, stopping it and various similar operations can be performed programmatically in the same way as for other Windows services. We show how to do so on page 2 using the command line, C# and C++.

Editing the configuration of the server and the individual websites can be done in C++ using the Application Host Administration API, AHAdmin for short. It can be done in C# using the ServerManager class. AHAdmin is described in the official documentation on MSDN at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa965120(v=vs.90).aspx. Tutorials showing how to use this API start from page 3.
